Problem & Solution
Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic and debilitating disease
It affects over 3 million people in the US alone and early diagnosis and intervention with disease-modifying treatment remains the greatest unmet need.
Due to the rapid progression and irreversible joint destruction caused by RA, and the side effects caused by drugs used to treat it, it is very important that the efficacy of the drug regime given to a patient is monitored. Efficacy of drug treatment during a clinical trial may be carried out by producing scores of current disease severity by scrutinizing x-rays of the hands or feet at various time-points. These scores are manually summed counts of erosions and narrowed joints. In a healthcare setting this is often not done due to the time involved in the scoring process.
Document joint damage and assess disease progression
RapidScore™ is a workflow tool for scoring hand and foot x-rays to document joint damage caused by rheumatoid arthritis. It allows the physician to conveniently document joint damage caused by rheumatoid arthritis and capture it in a report that can be shared with the patient.
RapidScore implements the Sharp-van der Heijde score, which is mandated by the FDA to document the effectiveness of disease modifying biologic agents for RA in clinical trials. Because RA drugs can have significant side effects and cost $10k-$20k per year, the ability to individually and quantitatively assess joint damage and disease progression plays an important role in managing treatment.
